06.09.2016

[Cologne, ] Prominent M&A partner Dr. Oliver von Rosenberg LL.M. will leave Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer for GÖRG’s Cologne office as of November 2016. Von Rosenberg, who will also be accompanied by associates Dr. Andrea Zimmermann, Dr. Andreas Groten and Ursula Lier, will come to GÖRG with impressive experience in the area of German and cross-border M&A transactions that includes in-depth involvement in structured corporate acquisitions (LBO, MBO, exits) and joint ventures as well as restructurings. In recent years, he has advised VEM Vermögensverwaltung GmbH in connection with the sale of the Merckle/ratiopharm group to the Israeli world market leader for generic pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, for € 3.625 billion, RheinEnergie AG in connection with its acquisition of a 49.62% interest in Steinkohlekraftwerk Rostock by Vattenfall Europe and RWE Power and CVC Capital Partners in connection with the purchase of 25.01% of Evonik Industries for € 2.4 billion.

Von Rosenberg studied law at Ruhr-Universität Bochum and Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he was awarded an LL.M., and in 1999 joined the Los Angeles office of a leading US law firm as foreign counsel. Von Rosenberg summed up the reasons for his move to GÖRG as follows: “After working together with GÖRG on transactions for years on a close, constructive basis, I am looking forward to the opportunity help grow the M&A practice of this leading German law firm.”

The associates who will join GÖRG with von Rosenberg, Dr. Andrea Zimmermann, Dr. Andreas Groten and Ursula Lier, all started out their careers with Freshfields. Dr. Andrea Zimmermann was a paralegal with the Cologne corporate law team from 2008 to 2011, then spent time at both the firm’s Cologne and New York offices during her clerkship and started to practice in the area of corporate law/M&A in 2012. Dr. Andreas Groten also spent time at the Cologne and London locations of Freshfields during his clerkship. He then started his career as an attorney in Cologne in 2014 and is now in GÖRG’s corporate law practice group. He advises clients in connection with national and international corporate transactions, including private equity transactions and joint ventures. Ursula Lier worked for the Cologne corporate law team of Freshfields as a paralegal from 2010 to 2013 and then spent part of her clerkship with the firm's Cologne and New York offices. In 2015, she became an associate at the Cologne office.

These new additions will expand the cross-locational resources of GÖRG’s corporate/M&A practice group. Von Rosenberg and his high-powered team will find functioning structures in the Corporate area at GÖRG that will permit seamless integration to form a harmonious whole. The fact that von Rosenberg and his team have in the past already worked together with teams from GÖRG will facilitate integration of all parties involved. According to Dr. Michael Dolfen of GÖRG management, “Future cooperation with Dr. von Rosenberg and his team will represent a further milestone in the expansion and growth of GÖRG's M&A and corporate practice groups. With these four new colleagues, we will add to our expertise and our competencies in these areas at the level of our Cologne office as well as nationally.” Dr. von Rosenberg and his team will also be available together with the M&A teams headed by Dr. Wolfgang König (Cologne), Dr. Roland Hoffmann-Theinert (Berlin), Dr. Frank Evers (Hamburg), Dr. Christian Becker/Andreas Peter (Munich) and Dr. Jens-Dietrich Mitzlaff/Dr. Marcus Herrmann (Frankfurt am Main), especially when M&A competence is required for large-scale cross-border transactions.”
