In a recent guest article, our lawyer and public procurement expert Alexander Pustal highlights the importance of life cycle cost analysis (LCCA) in public procurement. This approach goes beyond the consideration of pure acquisition costs and takes into account the total costs of a product or service over its life cycle – from acquisition and operation to disposal.
The article shows how municipalities can promote long-term budget stability and sustainability by taking life cycle costs into account. Practical examples and models such as the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) method illustrate how economic efficiency and ecological objectives can be combined in public procurement law.
