GÖRG has won the renowned antitrust expert Dr. Maxim Kleine (46) as a partner for its Hamburg office. Dr. Kleine will join GÖRG on 1 January 2021 from the law firm Norton Rose Fulbright, where he most recently headed the German antitrust practice. He will be joined by his established team of Katja Maria Weiß (37), Associated Partner, and Dr. Tobias Teichner (34), Associate.
Dr. Maxim Kleine represents well-known clients in antitrust proceedings – both before the European Commission and before national courts and authorities such as the German Federal Cartel Office – as well as in civil damages proceedings and arbitration proceedings with an antitrust focus. In the recent past, Maxim Kleine and his team were involved in a number of leading decisions of the German Federal Court of Justice on antitrust damages law. He also advises companies on structuring distribution systems in compliance with antitrust law, as well as on cooperation between competitors and structuring joint ventures in compliance with antitrust law.
"We are very pleased that with Maxim Kleine we have been able to win such a recognised antitrust expert for us. The addition of Mr. Kleine is an important milestone for the strategic realignment and expansion of our antitrust practice," says Dr. Jens-Dietrich Mitzlaff, Managing Partner at GÖRG. "All our offices will benefit from his expertise."
With the new addition, GÖRG is further expanding its antitrust practice around the experienced partner Dr. Christian Bürger. "The engagement of Mr. Kleine underlines the increasing importance of the antitrust practice for the firm," says Dr. Frank Evers, head of the corporate practice at GÖRG. "With Maxim Kleine and Christian Bürger, we have a strong team and see ourselves well equipped for future challenges in the market."
Dr. Kleine is looking forward to his move to GÖRG as well: "We are very much looking forward to advising on antitrust law at GÖRG in the future and I am confident that within a short time I will also be able to establish GÖRG as a renowned advisory practice in the field of antitrust law. In addition, six years after moving to Hamburg, I am of course pleased to have an office in the Rhineland again in the future, especially as Christian Bürger, a partner specialising in antitrust law, is on site."
Dr. Maxim Kleine is already GÖRG's second high-profile new hire for the new year, following private equity partner Dr. Bernhard Guthy, who will also start on 1 January 2021.
