GÖRG advises on the establishment of the “Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung”

Hamburg/Berlin, 26.07.2019

With the participation of internationally renowned research institutions such as the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), several universities, the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG) with the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI-MM) and the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M), the non-profit association "Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung" was founded in Berlin on 4 July 2019. The Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung brings together universities and non-university research institutions such as Helmholtz Centres, Leibniz and Max Planck Institutes and enables joint top-level research at the highest international level. The association connects leading German marine research institutions that contribute to a sustainable approach to the oceans and seas through research, infrastructure and knowledge transfer.

For example, the Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung is to provide options for action on socially relevant issues such as marine biodiversity and climate protection. With this association, one of the world's largest marine research alliances is being established with the aim of developing solution-oriented knowledge for the sustainable management of the seas and oceans. The federal government and the five northern German states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein are jointly providing a total of 56.25 million euros for this purpose by 2022. The federal government will contribute 80 percent of the financing, the federal states will jointly contribute 20 percent.

GÖRG has been advising the Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung since spring 2019. The Berlin partner, Dr. Martin Nentwig, provided the organisation with comprehensive corporate law support in its establishment. Dr. Jan Scharf and Dr. Oliver Jauch advise Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung on public procurement law and thus support the establishment of the corresponding structures.
