GÖRG, under the lead of Tobias Fenck has advised the shareholders of SMG Sportplatzmaschinenbau GmbH (SMG) on the sale of a majority stake to the investment company Gimv. The parties have agreed not to disclose the details of the transaction.
SMG Sportplatzmaschinenbau GmbH, based in Vöhringen, Bavaria, is a global leader in the development and manufacture of state-of-the-art machinery for the sports industry. The product portfolio includes specialised machines that are used in numerous sports and leisure areas - from artificial and hybrid turf to athletics facilities and tennis courts. With around 55 employees, SMG supports over 1,200 customers worldwide, including renowned teams such as Real Madrid, FC Bayern Munich and the Miami Dolphins.
Gimv, a European investment company, is acquiring a majority stake in SMG and intends to drive SMG's growth and international expansion together with Tobias and Daniel Owegeser, who will remain shareholders. Gimv focuses on innovative companies with high growth potential and invests in the consumer, life sciences, healthcare, smart industries and sustainable cities sectors.
